Art and Artists:

A TALK ON MONOTYPES and ENCAUSTIC

I will be presenting at The 17th International Encaustic Conference this year. On Friday, May 31, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. I will be sharing a survey of artists who use encaustic and monotype in ways I find intriguing and admirable.

It will include artists who work with monotypes and encaustic in complex and personal ways. It will cover artists who make encaustic monotypes, artists who use monotypes in other mediums with encaustic, and artists who use their monotypes to make mixed media 2- or 3-D work. I have collected information from many of the artists on their aims and processes. as well as why they prefer to work the way they do.

The talk is part of the 17th International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, Mass. that runs from May 31 through June 2, 2024. Bringing a community of artists together with gallerists, curators, critics and collectors engaged with wax, printmaking, mixed media and professional practices, the Conference is directed by Cherie Mittenthal and produced by Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill.

I enjoy all three days every year because I get to catch up with old friends and make new ones. The talks and demos are always intriguing.  This year’s Keynote Speaker will be the notable Petah Coyne, a contemporary sculptor and photographer best known for her large-scale hanging sculptures and floor installations. And, the juror for the annual Juried Show will be Barbara O’Brien, an independent curator and critic based in Milwaukee, is the former Executive Director of Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. She is an elected member of AICA-USA, International Association of Art Critics.

The Hotel Fair, The Vendor Room, and the eternally beautiful ocean and dunes invite me back every year. I hope you will join us! Check it all out here: https://www.castlehill.org/encaustic24
