Fountain Street is membership-based gallery in the SOWA district of Boston. The members exhibit their own work but have also created community events, installations, and offer an online marketplace. One of their annual events is an invitational exhibition in which each Core Member invites a colleague to a group show in the gallery. This year’s exhibition, Encounter, ran from November 28 – December 20, 2020. The exhibition was curated by director Marie Craig and assistant director Tatiana Flis, with one work from each artist displayed in the gallery and the rest posted to an online exhibition on their website.
Unfortunately, the usual First Friday Art Walk had to be canceled due to the increase in Coronavirus transmission numbers in Boston and the area. But undaunted, the team organized a Virtual Artist Reception + Tour that was held Saturday, December 19 on the Zoom platform. I was delighted to be able to see the work in the show and was impressed by the talks several of the artists gave as a recorded tour scrolled for us.
“Encounter” features twenty-one artists, each personally invited to participate by a Fountain Street Core Member. The other exhibiting artists are: Leika Akiyama, Eleanor Arbor, Aurora Brush, Jacquelin Grace Corti, Fernando Fula, Ania Gilmore, Joan Green, Olga Hunyadi, Steve Imrich, Luiny Juliao, John Mahoney, David Meyers, James Morningstar, Barbara Nachmias-Kedesdy, Chen Peng, Jim Peters, Marlene Rye, Andy Schirmer, Jed Sutter, Jhona Xaviera.
