This began as a demonstration painting, where I was showing how encaustic can be used as a drawing material. I covered the encaustic drawing with oil and wax paint, expressly for the way the paint wipes off the encaustic, but sinks into the lovely Rives paper. The final layer is oil and wax paint that makes great use of the three-dimensional quality of the encaustic underpinnings.
