, scribble stage

One of the stages of discovery on the path to a finished painting is what I call the scribble stage. You close your eyes–your artist-critic eye, and let go of all expectation. It really helps in resolving what you’ve done to that point and sometimes leads to a new, more promising direction. And sometimes, it looks just fine as it is. i’ll leave this alone for awhile. Perhaps I’ll mount it to a panel and see if that changes the composition or the sense of “done”. Stay tuned…
