This third or fourth Spring nor’easter is crampin’ my style. I was scheduled to do a painting demonstration for a local art association and the weather just insisted on changing our minds.We’ll do it later in the year, for sure. But I thought I’d share a drawing and along with it a bit about my particular ways of working. I often work on paper, with some combination of encaustic, wax-based oil paints, cold wax, graphite, and collage. The paint gets rolled on, scraped off, gouged (excuse me, incised), dripped, spattered and drawn over, under and often through, with or without collaged fragments prints, drawings, rice paper, and other sundries. But everything starts with a drawing, such as this one. And all the time I’m thinking about the plants…the universe…time…human nature…
