Description

A two-part workshop exploring the use of oil monotypes on Asian paper with encaustic collage. The sessions need several weeks between so that monotypes will be completely dry for collaging.

  • Part One is for creating oil monotypes using various plates, and R&F Pigments Sticks and/or oil paints, on inexpensive “rice” paper, or other thin and absorbent papers. 
  • Part Two explores creating images on panels by collaging the dry oil monotypes with encaustic medium and further developing the image with drawing, and cutting methods.
  • Materials provided:
    • printing plate
      • gelatin Plate (either GelPress or Gelli brands, or homemade)
      • plexiglas
    • R&F Pigment Sticks
    • R&F Blending Medium
    • oil paints
    • rice paper
    • 2 10 x 10 inch cradled panels
    • encaustic medium
  •  
  • Personal tools or supplies to bring if desired:
    • Session One:
      • silicone tools and/or pottery tools for making lines and shapes
      • hand-made or store-bought stencils, and stamps
      • any materials for patterning or light texture
      • additional rice paper
      • gloves
    • Session Two:
      • burnisher – an etching burnisher is best, spoon is good, bone burnisher is less good
      • drawing – ArtGraf, Stabilo Woody, litho crayon
      • Exacto knife of choice
      • single edge razor blade or scrapers
      • toning – PanPastel
      • additional panels

Each session runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in my New Boston Studio or online. Class is limited to 2, and casual. Bring your lunch.
