For this post, I just wanted to talk about a little bit of delight that comes with working on trace monotypes. The term trace monotype seems to imply a line drawing, an impression of the tool into the ink (always paint for me), but there is another happy result. Pressing the fingers, palms, or a soft tool onto the back of the paper gives one a great range of tonal possibilities, depending on the amount of pressure.

I haven’t found any other mode of drawing/painting that gives me this particular range of line and tone, in such a direct and responsive way.
